In they came to the warmth of the kitchen in early January and a few days later -  tiny little green shoots of hope peeped through the soil.
Here they are blooming away in the window at Soane – they loved this warm spot and flowered for over three weeks.
The bulbs lit up the window – so relaxed and happy – and a perfect partner for the Seaweed Lace wallpaper at Soane.
We also wanted to capture the wonder of the woodland floor – so early one morning we planted up pots and pots of primroses and carpeted the shop with them.
And finally the blossom has arrived. So uplifting! So light, feathery and delicate.  The pale pink petals of the winter flowering cherry ( Prunus subhirtella “Autumnalis Rose” ) flower from November to March. Wild cherry ( Prunus avium ) is now appearing.  The blackthorn ( Prunus spinosa ) will follow and soon be frothing through our hedgerows. Flowering over the new summer rattan from Soane - the pretty Dahlia Table  on the right and the mint covered Isis Daybed on the left .
Prunus subhirtella “Autumnalis Rose”. Here is it next to a huge bed in Soane’s window, covered in Lulu’s new romantic fabric,  Dianthus Chintz  which Lulu developed from an 18th century Sri Lankan sarong. We will be talking more about the fascinating relationships of flowers and fabrics as part of Chelsea Fringe at Soane on May 21st.
