Rust Eraser & Tool Cleaner
This is a fab little scouring block for cleaning resin, rust and other gunk from blades. Use the Clean Mate as you would a rubber/eraser.
Simply add a little water and rub away the rust and sap before you sharpen. Keep a rag handy to wipe off the resulting muck, then protect your newly cleaned blades with a little Camellia Oil.
It’s not just for garden tools – you can clean up any rusty, mucky carbon steel with this clever little object.
It has a fairly rough texture and might scratch polished surfaces, so we suggest testing before use on prize blades.

Best usage
Wet the Clean Mate before use.
Keep a pot of water handy to keep re-wetting, and use a rag to wipe away muck as you go.
Store in the Niwaki Pouch with a Sharpening Stone and Camellia Oil for regular, on-the-go cleaning.
Work on a stable surface, so that the tool has something to rest on, and go steady!
For shears we recommend wrapping the blade you’re not currently working on in a rag to avoid cutting yourself.
